Naxals reappear in Virajpet

Madikeri: Kodagu district, which had witnessed Naxalite activity in the past, has once again reportedly recorded the presence of the ultras.
Sources said a team of four armed Naxals — allegedly the same group that was spotted in the past — had visited a few villages on the Karnataka-Kerala border on March 12 and held discussions with coffee workers. However, the information came to light only on Thursday. The Naxals, who include Vikram Gowda, Koti Konda Ravindra, Sundari and an unidentified person, reportedly visited Parakette kere and Pookala villages on the inter-state border in Virajpet taluk.
They allegedly inquired about the standard of living of coffee workers and asked for rice. The Naxals might have made their way to the villages from Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, it is suspected.
In the past, the same team has visited Kalur village, the native place of Legislative Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah, on October 29.
According to reports, on Thursday too, the Naxal group visited a village in Virajpet taluk on the Karnataka-Kerala border and took 25 kg of rice, 5 kg of wheat and RS. 500 in cash from the house of one Harish.
However, there was no official confirmation.
