ANF combing forests in Kodagu, Kerala

The Karnataka Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) has launched combing operations in forests in Kodagu and Kerala boundary suspecting the presence of a team of six naxals, chief of the ANF Alok Kumar said in Madikeri on Tuesday.
He told presspersons that the search was being undertaken with the support of Kerala police.
The naxal team, led by Jayanna and Sundari, were said to be present in the forests bordering Kodagu and Kerala and they could be anywhere in the Mundrot, Katharakadu and Udumbe areas in the forests.
‘Roaming without food’
According to Mr. Alok Kumar, the naxals were wandering in the forests without food and were visiting households in the forest fringes seeking rice and other commodities, he said. The naxals were not getting any support in Kodagu at present, he added.
The police are searching every vehicle moving to and fro at the Makutta border gate following the news of possible presence of naxals in the area.
Though naxals had plans to form a ‘red corridor’ in the Western Ghats, it had not become possible because they lack support from locals, Mr. Alok Kumar added.
